Connections & publishing
Connect your hosting
Save your cPanel, SSH or FTP login in the secure login card or Connections so Deployment can publish. It never goes in the chat.

How do I connect my hosting so the crew can publish?
It depends on what your host gives you. Most shared hosting has cPanel: use the cPanel / hosting type with your server address, username and password. If you have a server with SSH, choose SSH and use a password or a private key, or let Deployment give you its own key to add. FTP / SFTP works too. Save it in the secure login card or under Connections, never in the chat. If you don't have hosting yet, get some first; the crew can build while you do.
Secure login card: the form that appears under Lenexa's message when she needs your hosting login. What you type goes straight to Deployment's locked settings and is never shown again.
Two places to save a login
- The secure login card. When Lenexa needs your hosting login, a card titled Add your hosting login appears right below her message.
- Connections. Connections in the left rail lists your Logins and keys. Add one any time, before you need it.
Either way, as the card says: "It goes straight to Deployment's locked settings. It never shows up in this chat, and nobody can read it back."
Fill in the secure login card
Choose the Type
cPanel / hosting, SSH or FTP / SFTP. If you log in to your host's control panel and see cPanel, choose cPanel / hosting.
Host
Your server's address, for example
server.yourhost.com. Your host's welcome email or control panel shows it.Username and Password
The same ones you use for that service. For SSH you can press Use a private key instead and paste a private key.
Save securely
Press Save securely. If a publish was waiting, you'll see "Saved. Deployment has it and is picking the publish back up." The card carries on without you asking again.
Never paste a password into the chat
Not even "just this once". The chat is kept as history; the secure login card and Connections are not. If you pasted one by mistake, change that password with your host and save the new one in the card.
Add a login under Connections
Open Connections in the left rail. Fill in Name (something you'll recognize, like "Rivera Plumbing hosting"), Kind, Host or address, Username, Password or Private key (optional), and Notes for the team (optional). One login per host. If you run several sites on different hosts, add one for each.
SSH without sharing a password
On SSH, Deployment has its own key. It can show you its public key in the chat to add to your server's authorized_keys file, then ask only for the host and username. It checks the connection with a real login before it publishes.
What about one-click hosting?
As of October 2026 there is no one-click connection to a particular host. Every host, NameHero included, connects the same way: save a cPanel, SSH or FTP login once in the secure login card. One-click hosting and free hosting for small sites are planned for a later version. WordPress sites don't have a separate connection type; see keep it or move it.
